JBA Champion of Champions
The club was yet again represented very well by the Bowls section were Karen Mason performed absolutely wonderfully in the competition winning the JBA Champion of Champions. Karen's score was 21-11 and 21-9 in the semis and finals beating Jenny Eagar from Linden.
Congratulations Karen you really made us proud and thank you for bringing the trophy home.
Karen you Beauty!!!
See below our lovely Karen with her Trophy and her runner up Jenny.
A lot has happened since the Nationals and Old Parks bowlers continue to perform well. Chris Rogers and Gary Austin after being messed around by East Gauteng Association went on to play in the last 32 of the Black and White Pairs and pulled off an excellent win to proceed to the last sixteen where unfortunately they were beaten by the narrowest of margins by one of the sides that reached the semi-finals. It really was good to see so many supporters who took the trouble to go out to Edenvale to watch the games. Well done to the "Lighties".
The Bowls section has enjoyed reasonable success over the first five months of 2012.
Starting with Saturday League- the Ladies 1st Team by finishing the league in second place in their division gained promotion to the second division for next season.
In the JBA tournaments the following successes have been recorded:-
Ladies Senior Pairs- A. Bosse and M. Foley reached the last sixteen
Ladies Open Singles- A. Ginsberg got through to the Quarter Finals and D. Butler raeched the last 16 and both were invited to play in the National Singles
For the Men G. Thompson won through to the last 32 of the Open Singles and was also invited to play in the National Singles.
In the JBA Mixed Pairs the club again was well represented with Chris Rogers and Eileen Breakey
performing well to reach the last 16.
At the Men's National Tournament held recently in Port Elizabeth, Old Parks was very well represented with three teams playing in the Pairs and Fours competitions. All three teams did Old Parks proud with the best results coming in the Pairs with M. Cann and N. Bell winning their section.
The club is currently running the Century Property Men's Fours competition and is being hotly contested and the winners will only be determined at the last game on the 13th June.
The next major event to be held at the club will be the Bowen Insurance Brokers Trips Turnament to be held over six weeks starting from Saturday 30th June.
The Old Parktonian Sports Club Bowls Section was founded in 1962 with one green.
The Clubhouse and a second green were built in the early 70’s.
The Bowls Section now boasts 2 well maintained greens appropriately named after two prominent members – namely Lawrie Locke and Robin Craggs.
The surrounding gardens make these greens amongst the most attractive in the region.
The club facilities are sought after as venues for competitions and tournaments under the auspices of the JBA.
The 110 members enjoy a full calendar of Tabs sessions, internal and external tournaments and competitions which ensure that the facilities are not underutilized.
